This is the pattern we see again and again up here, and it is worth understanding before you spend money on the wrong fix. A diesel particulate filter cleans itself by getting properly hot, and it only gets properly hot on a decent run. Heswall drives short. Do that for a couple of years in a modern diesel and the filter never completes a regeneration. On a heavy 4x4 the gain people actually feel is mid-range pull, not headline power. It stops hunting between gears on a hill and tows without labouring, which matters if you are pulling a trailer or a horsebox. On a big estate diesel doing mixed miles, the honest win is usually economy and drivability: the same journey with less effort and a smaller fuel bill.

Almost every job here happens outside the house. We need the car parked somewhere we can sit with a laptop plugged in for the duration, so a driveway is perfect and the steeper roads off Telegraph Road are less so. A Stage 1 map takes about an hour. Diagnostics depend entirely on what the car is doing, and we would rather look first and quote after than guess a price down the phone. Nothing gets changed without telling you what it is and what it costs.
